No mystery.
Just the details.
What is available, what is coming, what runs locally, and where to start. Release information updated September 11, 2026.
Is FREE EDITION actually free?
Yes. Mainely Code Buildroom—FREE EDITION is available for $0 on the Microsoft Store. You do not need a paid Buildroom edition to start using it. Your PC, storage, and electricity are still your own resources.
Are 3B, 4B, 7B, and 8B all available today?
Yes. Mainely Code Buildroom—FREE EDITION 1.8.5 includes 3B, 4B, 7B, and 8B local model choices today. The best fit still depends on compatible hardware, available memory, and the task. Check the Microsoft Store listing and the installed release notes for the exact model catalog and requirements.
What do 3B, 4B, 7B, and 8B mean?
The “B” stands for billions of model parameters. These numbers describe model size—not a guaranteed quality ranking. Model design, task fit, context, and the hardware running it all matter. FREE EDITION 1.8.5 identifies its current supported model choices in the app and release notes.
Will it work on my computer?
Buildroom is a Windows desktop app. Check the current Microsoft Store system requirements before installing. Model performance depends on available memory, processor, graphics hardware, and workload. Supporting an 8B model does not mean every PC can run it comfortably.
Can I use it offline?
The current FREE EDITION is designed for local AI conversations after the initial setup and model download. Downloads, updates, and any work that explicitly uses online resources still need a connection. Local-first is not a claim that every possible workflow is offline.
When are LITE and ADVANCED coming?
LITE and ADVANCED are in active development. Their public availability, final capabilities, hardware requirements, and pricing will be announced only when their respective release qualification is complete. The current Microsoft Store product available today is Buildroom—FREE EDITION 1.8.5.
Can I buy LITE or ADVANCED here now?
No. We are not taking payment or advertising a finished paid edition on this website. Final prices, supported models, hardware requirements, and purchase details will accompany the respective launches.
Is Buildroom the same as Orb-Weaver or Sasquatch?
No. Buildroom is the local-first software engineer. Orb-Weaver is the local-first UI/UX design loom. Project Sasquatch is the cloud-based broad-spectrum AI command center. Northstar is Mainely Code’s flagship cognitive platform. Each has its own job and release path.
How do I send feedback or hear about a release?
Email hello@mainelycode.com or follow Mainely Code on LinkedIn. The contact page opens your own email app; it does not silently subscribe you to a mailing list. Please do not send passwords, API keys, or private source code.
What is FORGE, and is it available yet?
FORGE is a planned local-first model engineering and AI research workbench. It is not a Buildroom edition and is not available to download yet. Development is starting soon. Explore FORGE’s product direction or read the public PDFs.
